Hafsa Foundation Awards Memorial Scholarship to Meritorious Student

Guwahati, March 30, 2026

In a ceremony held today at the Head Office of Hafsa Foundation at Sarumotoria, Guwahati, the Matiur Rahman Choudhury Memorial Scholarship was formally awarded to Miss Minu Begum of Nalbari, a meritorious and economically disadvantaged student pursuing B.A. LL.B. at B.R.M. Government Law College.


The scholarship was handed over by Er. Moinuddin Choudhury, the sponsor of the scholarship, in the presence of Jiyauddin Choudhury, Chief Adviser of Hafsa Foundation, Tahir Uddin Laskar, A.C.S., Retired Joint Secretary to the Government of Assam, Dr Raina Majumdar, retired Professor of Gauhati University, Ms Princey Choudhury, USA, former Director Microsoft, and others. Er. Moinuddin Choudhury instituted this scholarship in loving memory of his father, Late Matiur Rahman Choudhury of Bagpur, Cachar.


It may be mentioned that the Hafsa Hatim Ali Choudhury Memorial Scholarship was instituted by Er. Moinuddin Choudhury, in memory of his grandfather, Late Hatim Ali Choudhury of Bagpur, Cachar, was awarded earlier on March 7, 2026, to Hafij Momtajul Hussain Choudhury of Hailakandi, a meritorious and economically disadvantaged first-semester MBBS student at Silchar Medical College.


Er. Moinuddin Choudhury has also instituted another scholarship—the Hafsa Haowarun Nesa Choudhury Memorial Scholarship—in loving memory of his mother, Late Haowarun Nesa Choudhury. This scholarship will be awarded to a meritorious and economically disadvantaged student studying in a reputed Central University.


All three scholarships instituted by Er. Moinuddin Choudhury is administered by Hafsa Foundation for Social Advancement. Each scholarship carries a stipend of Rs. 1,000 per month for a period of 12 months.


Speaking on the occasion, Jiyauddin Choudhury, Chief Adviser of Hafsa Foundation, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Er. Moinuddin Choudhury for instituting these scholarships. He described the initiative of Er. Moinuddin Choudhury as a profound expression of love and gratitude towards his parents and grandparents, as well as a reflection of his strong social commitment and deep empathy for economically disadvantaged yet meritorious students.


He further expressed hope that such noble initiatives would inspire others to institute scholarships in memory of their parents, teachers, and loved ones. He emphasised that such efforts would go a long way in supporting deserving students and preventing dropouts due to financial constraints.


In the same ceremony Progressive Peoples Foundation (PPF) Guwahati also awarded the Khairun Nessa Memorial Scholarship of Rs.15000 to Suhana Begum of Shribhumi, a second semester student of Physiotheraphy, Kaziranga University. The Kahairun Nessa Choudhury Memorial Scholarship has been instituted by Dr. Sahnawaj Majumdar and Ms.Niloufar Majumdar, grand son and grand daughter of Khairun Nessa Choudhury.
